Central Heating Installation Process

Central Heating Installation Process

When getting something big like central heating installed, you want to know what’s going on. Check out our guide on the heating installation process!

Here in the UK, we are no stranger to cold climates. Investing in a central heating system can save you from some frigid winter nights.

We understand that central heating may be confusing. There are many different pieces and parts that go into its installation.

Luckily, we have broken down the process for you.

Read on to learn more.

Selecting Proper Equipment

There are three primary components to a central heating system. There is a radiator, a gas boiler, and a control system.

A gas boiler’s size is definitely important. The user will want something that is capable of heating their house. Yet, too big can result in much higher gas bills.

It’s likely the radiator will be quite noticeable within a home. We recommend selecting a radiator that complements the interior of a house.

Install Radiators

Your radiator must be installed with some room from the ground. We recommend roughly 4-6 inches to save space for the heating valves.

Usually, there are two valves that are installed underneath a radiator. One is a wheel valve and the other is a lockshield.

These improve the circulation of the water flow within the radiator.

Attach Pipes From Radiator to Boiler & Faucets

A boiler will send heat to the radiator via pipes that lay beneath the floor.

Copper or plastic pipes are commonly used to attach pipes from the radiator and faucets. They need to reach the boiler to allow heat to flow.

It’s important that these pipes function properly.

Install Control System

The control system, also known as a thermostat, comes next. Different control systems require different installation techniques.

The control system is at the heart of the central heating installation. It’s what signals to the other components to start warming.

Install Boiler

When installing a boiler, it’s important to disconnect water and gas supply.

Like the control system, different boilers will be installed in different ways. Consult a certified professional.

We recommend using a boiler that has air conditioning options as well!

Activate Heat Pump

The last step to central heating installation is getting your heat pump going. This requires a few different tasks.

First, the radiator vents will need to be closed so water can circulate through.

Water will continue to move through the vents until it balances out within the system. This is where the lockshield valves come into play. They allow water to move through without drippage.
